boracay - philippines

The Philippines constitutes an archipelago of 7,107 islands, and Boracay is one of those islands. I had no other choice but to instantly add Boracay to my list of paradises on earth... The beaches, the weather and the turquoise ocean - absolutely stunning.

The local climate is hot, humid, and tropical and even though it's the rainy season there at the moment, we were very lucky. It did rain, but only at night, so every morning when we opened our eyes we looked out on blue sky's and crystal clear water. Now that does automatically put a big smile on my face, we all know that... And Kris and I truly enjoyed everything about the island to the fullest and had a immensely beautiful time.

The Philippines is a newly industrialized country, but in our eyes the Philippines is still a quite poor country. Dirt roads, small shacks that people live and run business in, pigs, roosters and skanky dogs running around the streets, and kids with big beautiful brown eyes without any pants on. There are lots of smiling faces and many happy hellos along the way though.

On the island, the two main modes of transport are via motor-tricycles along the main road or by walking along the beaches. We did both, but we also tried a third way of transport, horse riding. My first horse didn't want to walk, but the second one they put me on gladly galloped. Lovely. And we went sailing too, had a totally amazing day at sea.

Our hotel was absolutely lovely. It is tucked away on its very own private beach, offering seclusion and privacy. This secluded beach resort sits atop a steep cliff, surrounded by the cove it's nestled in. Some of the bungalows even appear to be clinging to the sides of the cliff. More or less the perfect place to stay if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing and romantic beach vacation. Best thing of all - the place was not only heaven for us, it was also puppy heaven as they had 9 super cute 1,5 months old golden retrievers running around the place. I fell in love with them all without hesitation.

Lazy days in the sunshine on a beach with a good book in my hand. To me, that is paradise. And let me tell you, it was very hard to leave...
